I am running a Gigabyte GA-7VT600 1394 mobo and recently replaced my 2400+ processor and one 512 module of Corsair XMS2700 ram with a 3200+ and one 512 module of Corsair XMS3200 ram. Now the system will black screen intermittently while 3d gaming (UT 2003) and also occasionally reboot when surfing the web. The 2400+ and XMS2700 were rock solid and when I put them back in the system for a test is runs stable again.

All settings are standard...no overclocking. I have an Aerocool 420 watt power supply so that shouldn't be a problem. Any ideas anyone?

Doublecheck the HSF to make sure it's making the appropriate contact?

Have you tried doing a memory check on the new memory?

I will try the memory check but I did try putting the XMS2700 back in and the problem was still there. The heatsink seems to be on pretty firm and looks flat on the socket.

I forgot to mention that this is the second 3200+ I put in. I RMA'd the first one thinking it might have a problem since the problem went away when I put the 2400+ back in. Is it possible this mobo is having problems running the 200MHZ fsb and the 400MHZ ram? I have all the settings on auto. I have been up for about 2 hours now with no problems but not running any games. That is where the real problems start.

Yes, via drivers were installed before any other drivers right after a fresh reinstall of XP. I just tried playing UT2003 after resetting the heatsink. Still the same problem. Black screen and the only recovery is by pressing the reset button. UT2003 played for about 6-7 minutes before it black screened. I also looked to see if there was a bios update for this board. The AMD website recommends the bios I am currently running.

RAM works fine when I put the 2400+ back in the system. The system with the 2400+ and the XMS3200 is very stable. It only seems when the ram gets to the 400MHZ speed (or the clock generator on the mobo trying to make it all work) that problems begin.

I have no floppy so the memtest will be a challenge.

do you have a cd burner? there is a link to a .iso image that boots and runs memtest.
