I get a strange lockup when playing games. I don't play much other than Halflife, which is where it happens most, but I can say it has happened more than once in NeedForSpeed5U. During the freeze, the keyboard doesn't respond, mouse doesn't respond, and a 2 second sound segment loops until the freeze is over. The time this freeze last varries, sometimes it goes away after a few seconds, sometimes I have to hit the power button. This is VERY VERY annoying. Im playing some Halflife Counterstrike, I freeze, get capped, and then unfreeze 3 rounds later to find myself dead! I cannot say I have any ideas of why this happens either. I have tried reformatting more than once. Ive tried running Windows 2000, Windows98 and 95 and Windows Millenium (which is what I am running now) and it happens every time. Sometimes Im lucky and I dont freeze but that is rare. My system specs are as follows:
Pentium 3 550mhz sse retail - not overclocked
256megs pc133 ram
abit be6II mobo
Ibm deskstar34gxp 7200rpm ata66 27 gig hd
toshiba 8x dvd
yamaha scsi 8x burner
asus v6600 deluxe
soundblaster live soundcard (I had an aureal too, same prob occured)
inwin q500 full tower
I have alot of COOLING fans. I specifically purchased an extra 3 or 4. It could still be a cooling problem though because it gets really hot during the summer in this basement. heh.
And the problem only occurs when playing games.
Any suggestions? Really need a fix.
