I just bought a new sound card. I went budget budget budget and got the $20 C-Media 5.1 card on newegg (labeled AV511-6CH on the card itself), after I read all of its positive reviews saying it was as good or better than SBLive. Well it IS a great card, or it would be. It seems to really hate my TV card. When the two are in the system at the same time I am greeted by an instant lockup in XP as soon as I boot the system. When I removed the TV card (after several other unsuccessful tests) the computer booted and the sound card worked beautifully. The TV card without the sound card works fine. The sound card alone works fine. Together, no matter what PCI slot they use, they cause a hard lockup in XP and 98.
Obviously, this seems(seemed?) like an interrupt conflict. I have done everything to troubleshoot the IRQ's that I know of. I tried disabling the BIOS's auto-configuring the cards and everything else. XP will not let me change the IRQ manually, though. I never got the TV card to take on an IRQ separate from the sound card. I couldn't figure out how to do it. So I tried it with the TV Card in the PCI slot but the drivers uninstalled and disabled. This was to keep it from using IRQ resources. The computer still locked up. I honestly have no idea why this could be happening. Anyone have any ideas?
The sound card is the one on the bottom of this page: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...=57&manufactory=1487&DEPA=1&sortby=14&order=1
and the TV card is generic but runs on the Brooktree BT878 chipset.
Thanks in advance.
