I just got my new A7N8X Deluxe board and after installing WinXP Pro and all my software I tried to burn a CD in Nero and after the first couple of seconds Nero says SCSI/IDE Aborted. After that the computer just locks up and won't respond. I also tried to burn with the build-in burn program in Xp and it also locks up and won't respond. Any idea what could cause this? I'm tring to flash the bios to the current version but Asus has a dead link on their website. Please HELP.

You did install those IDE drivers and chipset drivers from the A7N8X CD right? I have the same exact board too. What burner do you have? Where you burning CD to CD or data/music to CD?

Best I know I installed the IDE drives. I have the Plextor 24x10x40a burner. I'm burning a Data CD.

Does your bios show scsi or ide? I think if you use the performance drivers it shows up a scsi device. Don't use those drivers. Make sure to use the normal ide ones. Is anything being overclocked? I had a burner that wouldn't work in an overclocked system. Update nero to the newest version if you haven't.

I think I got it working. First I installed the drives from the Asus page and not the nVidia page and I also update the firmware on the drive. So far so good. Still waiting on the Bios update link to work.

Your problem is being caused by the non-WHQL performance "SW" IDE drivers. Those drivers make all your IDE devices appear to be SCSI, and Nero doesn't know how to talk to the drive. If you use the WHQL certified MCP IDE drivers, Nero will work fine...

:)

Edit: You should install the latest UDP package right from Nvidia that can be found here. When asked if you want to install the "Performance SW" drivers, choose no, and it will install the normal WHQL IDE drivers. :)
