Locks of Love - hair donating

2 years ago i donated some hair, and 10 inches was too long. so now i read that 8-10 inches they will just sell. i had no realy problem with this because its a donation anyway.
so 8 inches is more feasible so i searched and found here that apparently locks of love charge for their wigs according to income.
Should this be an issue since it is implied that its a free service? i did come across a beautiful lengths which supposedly do not charge for the wigs they make.

on one hand a family who can afford a wig should pay more, but should a wealthy family be using locks of love in the first place? im considering gnot using locks of love, what do you think?

I'm guessing it costs something to make a wig... so even if they're non-profit and get the hair donated, they'd need to pay somebody to craft the wig.

I've been thinking about cutting my hair off, and looked into donating it. (pony tail is about 14" )

Turns out, gray hair like mine just gets sold...

So, IF I get it cut off, it will just get tossed out.

yea cant be more than 5% gray for the other org. i can understand selling the hair, but charging? a non profit org shouldnt be charging especially since they get revenue from selling the hair...

From comments on the blog...

"Charity Navigator says that 81.1% of Locks of Love's donations go to program costs. That's very high. 12.7% goes to administrative costs and 6.1% goes to fundraising costs. These are very low compared to most charities."

it is alot, but there are non profit orgs that take nothing...

on a side note i was wondering why you cant cut off the hair from say three ponytails, one in the back and one on each side of the head. this way you get more length.

I was thinking about this...

Did you know that the blood you donate tgo the American Red Cross gets SOLD to hospitals? You donate blood, and the Red Cross SELLS it. We should all start a revolt.

If they buy it from them, perhaps it can subsidize the cost of donating one to someone who can't afford it?

the hair they sell makes up for it and some. the way i understand it is that low income families will have to pay something, and the point should be that they shouldn't have to worry about it.
