It's because you could do something like this:

Title: HAHAHAHA Paulson Sucks Donkey Balls

Message: Paulson is the biggest nef in history.

blah blah blah


then lock it.

(yes, I mock myself. What a suprise)

It's just to risky to allow people to say crap then lock it.

Is that any different than getting it locked by a mod?

Or perhaps you're saying that the mods wouldn't lock that kind of thread?

I think they decided the potential for abuse was just too high. They mods have enough to do already without the added burden of deleting all the inappropriate threads locked by users.

What I've seen over at other forums is a feature called &quot;Notify Moderator&quot;. It notifies a moderator about the content of the post. I guess since we have PM, that feature would be somewhat useless. .
