Locking the computer on Mac OS 10.4

Something I'm used to on Windows and Linux is simply locking the computer when i walk away from it. Such as on XP it's very quick, indowskey+L and it's password locked and you're still logged on. Now I have yet to find a way to do this on the mac mini i just bought today, anyone know if this is possible or is my attempted switch or chance im giving to apple to prove itself going to get worse lol.

I don't know a solution for a keyboard shortcut but you can tell your Mac to demand the user account password when ending the screensaver (System Preferences > Security) and then just activate the screensaver, maybe also defining an active corner (System Preferences > Desktop & Screensaver). Have fun with the Mini!

Yeah i found that alright, but i just want a way to lock it doesn't have to be with they keyboarsd can be like linux and just be in the menu's but i take it, there's no way to do this. Any third party apps?

Enable Fast User switching under System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login Options. I always do Show as Icon. You should see a black outline of a person in the top right hand corner. Select "Login Window..." and it will do what you want.

There is also a program called WinSwitch that will give you a hotkey for it.
