Locking a wallpaper (background) in win2k?

Hey guys is there a way I can somehow lock a wallpaper as my background in win2k?
And possibly prevent the actual file from being deleted?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

you can make the file read only and give it hidden attributes and physically hide the file if you're THAT concerned with it being tampered with. And as for permanently affixing the wallpaper to the desktop, you need to use a policy editor to restrict that aspect of the registry.

lemme see what i can find

Tweak UI from microsoft should allow you to lock the wallpaper.

Download it here.

There is a way around it though 🙂 The right-click-set-as-background option in internet explorer will override this. You'll have to use the Internet Explorer administration kit (IEAK) to make a special install that doesn't allow this.

Here's the homepage for IEAK.

You'll also need to set file and folder permissions on the bitmap so it can't be deleted or replaced.

You can set the registry key for the user's desktop to be read only

When I used to work for a university, I would make all control panel files (.cpl) read only, and lock down the majority of the user's profile to be read only. No one in 2.5 years successfully altered any of the settings.
