Yeah, this idiot really did it this time. I installed LockIt security software on my computer a then hit the key to lock the system. It locked, all right. I can't get it to unlock, tho. I used the correct password, and checked the Caps status. Nope. The program automatically starts up when the computer does, and I can't seem to stop it. Apparently, it took the liberty to remove the function menu (that comes up when you hold down control or hit F8 when booting). I can't even get it to start in safe mode. I'm going to make a boot disk and see if deleting the program files and looking for strange things in the windows folder.

Anyone know how to get around this?

you have the right idea with making a boot disk, except deleting program files is probably gonna do more damage than good. when you start to dos, edit the autoexec.bat and config.sys and remove any references to that lockit program. that should take care of it

I just booted to DOS from a recovery CD. I deleted the executable, and then booted into windows. Manually deleted all references to the program from the registry, and all is now well.

No offense, but how would it do more damage than good? Also, since nearly all security programs are run through windows services instead of autoexec, that wouldn't have helped much.

Thank you for your suggestions, though!
