What the heck? I just bought a

retail p4 800fsb 2.8 HT
MSI NEO 875P

And the CPU ratio says "Locked" in the BIOS?!?!? What the heck did I set something wrong? Or is Intel Locking their chips still. I thought they stopped doing this?

Intel has been and still are locking the multipliers on their processors. If you want to overclock it, the FSB is your only way to go.

Where are these rumors coming from that Intel unlocked their latest CPUs? There's been a couple of threads just here with people thinking this, and I've encoutered threads on several other forums as well as people at school that I talk to thinking the same thing. Who is spreading these rumors?

Maybe the occasional engineering sample makes its way into public hands.

salesman: Here you go, i dunno what u meant by the ES part but this is a 2.4C. They dont even make 2.4C ES afaik, its prbably just some blurb u herad. Or maybe some store labels them differently, so they added on ES to the end...
person 4: yah i dunno probably, my friend just heard it and told me. Well whatever thx very much.
