locked bios

Hi.
I've got a new Medion machine (www.medion-usa.us), 2.2 P4 Northwood, with an MD5000 mobo (MSI MS-6701), using the SiS-648 chipset. Right now I've got an (out of the box) Award v.600 BIOS.

Admittedly, I dont know much about overlocking, but its something I'd like to do. Right now it's at 22x100Mhz, and bus speed is 400Mhz. When I go into the bios to change the multiplier or FSB, it's grayed out and I can't change anything. I've been reading around (all in german, because it's a german company), and I can't seem to find a way to do it, though I have found out that people have overclocked their systems.

Any recomendations? Also, when I use MODBIOS to change the bios that's already there, I try to enable a "system health" menu in modbios, but it never shows up when I flash it. Any ideas?

Thanks for any tips/advice.
-Steven

the multiplier for that p4 is locked at core level that's why you can't change it in bios!
as for the fsb, does the bios have an administrator password applied?

yeah changing the multi on P4's doesn't happen. but i don't know what is up with the fsb being locked. you said that it doesn't show up in the bios so maybe it is just hidden under an F-key like in some bios.

It shows up, but it's greyed out so that I can't change it. I found a software program (CPUCOOL), that seems to change it on the fly from within windows. When i go back to the bios after changing it, it shows up as faster in the bios, but I still can't change it from there. Does anyone know anything about CPUCOOL? Or how I could unlock the bios?

When you buy a commercially built system, you almost immediately forgo any overclocking at all. They lock the BIOS so you don't RMA a machine killed by OCing.

Right, but I'm asking if there's a way to do it anyway. Is there a way to either unlock the bios, or does anyone know of a place where I coudl download a bios for the MD5000 board (MS-6701). Right now I'm overclocking with CPUCOOL, and it seems to work, but i'd still like the bios options to play with voltages and such.

Try MSI's site for the BIOS and see what happens. No guarantees and hope you don't somehow kill the board flashing. I'd be happy you got the thing overclocked at all.

Nothing on MSI's site. They pretend that this mobo doesn't exist. I've already flashed the bios several times with self-modded bios'es by MODBIN6. Unfortunetly, this doesn't help with overlcocking. I'm still missing two menu's off the front screen.
