You'll be looking at a few %, maybe 3% or less. Once you do like 10 WU's you have done more than half of all the users... so...

According to this page: User Stats there are around 450k-550k users who have submitted a wu in the last 4 weeks.

But if you look at this page : Current Total Stats only about 1800 people have submitted wu's in the last 24hours.

Seems a huge percentage of those 4mil are inactive🙁

I want to know what the real meaning of the numbers is.. statistics are something than be manipulated in so many different ways as to prove true opposite extremes. Personally, I think all of the ZERO wu accounts should just be wiped out of the database. Try it - run SETI and complete 1 WU and you'll be ahead of roughly 30% of the users in the database.

Postman is just commenting on the fact that the WU's they have are crunched several times, just so there is enough data to go around, so there are already ENOUGH people crunching... so having more users isn't important in regards to the scientific aspect of the project...

If all you have to say are negative things about a project, especially one that you are not running, then you are doing nothing but trying to do harm and cause trouble.

The message delivered is a slightly veiled attempt to induce people away from SETI and move towards "your" favorite project. This is considered Cross-Recruiting and is not allowed on this forum. We are a team of multiple projects sharing the same forum. Cross-Recruiting will only lead to flame wars and a destruction of TeAm Spirit and it has to stop.

I guess next time I'll make the mistake of writing something not accepted and sanctioned by the ministry of DC Project X propaganda section I get labeled as terrorist for 'unTeAmian actions' and be beaten to death with WU's?

People will always have a different of opinions . What matters is we are all on the same team no matter what project we chose to run and we should respect each others opinions even when we don't agree with it.
I certain hope you don't quit the team because of a simple disagreement over an opinion postman, If we all did that there wouldn't be many people left here 🙂

This does not look like cross recruiting in any way to me. He does not suggest or ask that people try another project, or anything else for that matter.... he just made a point on how 4,000,000 or 10,000,000 users, same amount of data gets processed. he may be bitter about the popularity of seti, but thats his own buisness....

He may have been a little rude in how he said it, but does he deserve a public attack? No he doesn't... especially when it's supported by an unofficial TA SETI official.... One could easily have PMed or contacted postman in another manner, and brought up the issue of his rudeness, or even openly in the forum... but instead he just got insulted.


Postman, please don't leave this team just because of a few people from another project... you are certainly an asset to this team and there are many people who would want you to stay. I for one still want to up my production, catch up with and surpass you on ECCp, but I want it to be with you at full steam! Not because you stopped crunching 🙁


We are a team and we need to stick together...

Lets calm down guys.

I've noticed a few things on the topic of the number of SETI users.
1. Many many 0 WU users shouldn't count.
2. The Rattledagger effect. (you guys know what I mean😉)
3. You think they may not help people get passwords that have lost access to their email address just to force them to start a new account and inflate the numbers?

As far as work being processed many times just to put out enough work for everyone, I don't believe that has been done for quite a while. Each WU is processed 3 times for the sake of error checking.

zeruty: Nice words and team spirit aside, Postman has made his views on SETI quite clear to us both here on the AT Forums and also on the TA IRC channel. His "Correct me if I'm wrong but exactly .. who cares?" comment is quite in keeping with his general attituide toward the S@H project; he's certainly entitled to his opinion but if he does choose to wander off elsewhere, I won't be amoungst those who'll miss him.

I think many things of this..

a) If you don't find a thread interesting, don't write in it.

b) No one cares if there isn't any other form of life out there. We're at least trying to find it. As it's been said many times before, we don't care about the WU's, we care about the team spirit, because that's what we come back here for. If we cared about the WU's, we'd want to know the data analysis results and stuff like that, but we download them, crunch them, and send them.

c) People who have negative views on SETI threads shouldn't be writing in them, that's how arguments like these start.

d) If someone wants to leave our team over a very insignificant argument, then it appears their maturity is a little low to be a part of us, so maybe it's for the better. We like good results and lots of DP (In ECCp), but a team filled with bitter people will never achieve anything more than a bunch of DP's.

e) Finally, this thread should be deleted, we should get back to normal, Postman should come back with a better attitude and respect for others and their chosen DC projects, and we should get back to having fun again.
