UPDATE:

Nevermind... already covered http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=31&threadid=1488689&enterthread=y

I currently have a Geforce2 GTS :)
Let's just say I'm looking to upgrade... :p

I'm not a huge gamer but Battlefield Vietnam has me by the short hairs right now and I'm thinking I may end up with Battlefield 2.

I've been looking at XFX's offering and it seems to be the best? Is that right? I seem to think there are some revisions to this card, should I be looking for a specific one?

Can you convince me to buy a 6800nu?

Thanks for any opinions...

If you are not willing to get a 6800GT or Ultra, which I would recommend whole heartedly.. then I'd just get the 6600GT. You COULD get a 6800NU.. but for myself, if I was not willing to get a 6800GT I'd just save some cash and go for the 6600GT.

Thats me, YMMV.

OK, well, here's what you have to consider:

- Will you play games with Antialiasing (AA) or Anisotropic Filtering (AF)?
- What resolutions will you be playing at? 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200?
- How much "eye candy" (I.E. texture detail, lighting effects, etc.) will you have on?

Based on these, if you answer in the "high" range on all of these, then the 6800NU is for you. However, if you answer in the low to medium range on all of these, then I would get a 6600GT.

Also, you said:

I will say this only once, and many on these forums will agree with me: AVOID XFX LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!. They are perhaps regarded on these forums as the worst brand you can buy, however, there are some that think they are great. I personally don't. The only reason I have one is because I was sort of "forced" to have it (I won't go into the details). I would look for a card (either 6600GT or 6800NU, which ever you decide on) from:

MSI
BFG
eVGA

These seem to be the best regarded on these forums. Leadtek is good, but I have also seen people upset with them (including my friend), more than the others above. Just avoid XFX, and you should be OK.

I have eVGA 6600GTs, and have no issues with them. They give you the added benefit of their "trade up" program if you should opt for a higher card within 90 days.

I had a XFX 6800GT that I had no problems with, as I'm sure 100s of others could say as well. They anger GeForce Tony though, YMMV.

I like Leadtek cards a lot, and am going with them for my 6800NUs.
