lock ups

ive been running rc5 around the clock for 49 day`s yesterday i wanted to get some idle temp`s and after about 5 minutes my pc locked up did a hard start five minutes later same thing if i leave rc5 running no problem`s.. any idea`s???

Your computer locks if you aren't running RC5... that's a new one. 🙂 I really can't think of a good explaination for that!

Maybe your computer's just barely stable at that speed, and any cooling changes the CPU so it doesn't work. If so, you should probably either keep it running 24/7 at that speed 🙂, or downclock it some.

Hmmm... 2 things that may be completely way off but:

1.) Win ME... (LOL)
2.) WD hard drive... (sigh - possibly flakey)

And although they claimed they fixed it, there's been some uptime buggaroo in windud where it resets it's uptime clock every 49.7 days or something I believe? Don't know if that's really what's impacting you but still... 😉

Basically, 9x/ME weren't made to stay up that friggin' long. And ME is known to have so much sh1t running and trying to keep itself going that I wouldn't be surprised if you may need to scandisk and/or defrag (plus look out for that swap file it has)

My 2K advanced server has been up about 85 days, and that's amazing in and of itself... but it's supposed to be a server... 😉

well scan disc and defrag i run about every two or three day`s so we can eliminate that

wd hard drive has been a dream so far.. although there has been a strange intermitent noise .... sound`s like a cricket with a muffler in just the last week hummm?
