lock up - vertical bars on display

Has anyone seen computers do this? About 2-3 times each day the machine will lock up and on the display is alternating vertical bars spanning the entire monitor.

Sempron 2600+
K8M800 motherboard
WinXP Home
2x256 Giel pc3200 ram

All Windows updates, all driver updates, latest BIOS. No programs running on startup.

I can go through and speculate what the problem could be too, want to find out if anyone has seen a similar situation and has been able to determine the fault.

I've seen that at work here on some computers with integrated video. Fixed it by running the RAM at a slower speed. You might see if loosening the timings a bit helps.

I'll try that out when I get back to the computer next. I know that ram was running great in a different machine for a week, though it was running at PC2100 speeds at the time. This particular ram is rated at CL2.5 4-4-8, so not sure how much slower I can go. I was thinking of just underclocking the ram at PC2700 speeds, the bios has settings to allow for that. See what happens.
