Lock up only on internet

I built a computer for a friend a few months ago. He said it works great except when he is on the internet, then it hard locks within 5-10 min (you have to hold the power button in and force it to shut down). He said it never locks when he is not on the net. So I thought the only thing different that is being used on the net is the modem. I tried changing it and the problem is the same. Any ideas??? What could cause it to only lock on the net, not when running other programs???
 
Well, I'm not really sure... you eliminated the modem as the culprit by trying another. You are connecting, but are still having a problem with stability only when on the internet (and you have verified that by checking the whole system out yourself). Maybe you could try reinstalling the latest internet explorer. That's all I can think of.

Thanks for the replies. 🙂 That is a good idea. It doesn't have the latest explorer, so I will try and update the explorer as soon as I get a chance to go to his house. I'll let you know!!
