If you consider only the CPU then AMD definitely...

But when you factor in rambus then I'm not sure... But even if P4 is really faster, my guess is it wouldnt be that much of a difference... but the AMD setup will save you a LOT more money!

don't listen to all of these jokers 😀 a 1.4 gHz t-bird with ddr is almost the match of a 2.0 gHz pentiumIV with rambus. that should tell you how it would perform against a 1.4 gHz pentium IV. but as one person asked, haven't you ever seen any benchmarks?
