(LOCK ME) Wisconsin Town Mourns Slain Hunters

The Story

All these guys taken out by one Hmong immigrant apparently. Guess having guns didn't make these guys very safe after all... Or did they just not expect their prey to be armed?

Edit: this is rather repostish but I think this article is different because it stresses the town's reaction: mourning.

Edit #2: I'm not really sure what people are so angry about with this post. I am not happy people died. I am not celebrating it in any way and I challenge you do point out what crosses the line. That's why I posted a story about a town in mourning. I'm just saying this suggests guns don't make you safe. I also think this guy might have had an excuse. It's called self-defense. I'm not sure it was justified, but I'm not closing the book on it yet.

take my advice, delete this thread before your enemies come in and have their fun.

EditL because this is repost # 2019

Enemies coming in and having fun?

I will edit since it's a repost.

Edit: well this story is different because it covers the town's reaction but it's sort 'of a repost

I might have done the same if I was a Hmong immigrant. Maybe he was defending his life?

Or at least reasonably believing he was defending his life. Imagine you don't understand English very well and you get a group of Nascar fans yelling at you, you could think your life is in jeopardy given America's history of racial violence.

What the heck does this have to do with Islam? Nothing. Go somewhere else if you want to attack Muslims.

Why do you think he doesn't understand English? Seems like you belong in the Nascar fan group unless you have more info than just the article you posted...

You're right. I'm not sure he doesn't undestand English. After all, he apparently understood the threats and insults coming from the hunters.

What would me belonging in the Nascar fan group prove?

I get the feeling he did understand English as he's been in country for at least 16 years.

BTW, way to take a shot at everything 😉. There's one thing you missed spinning though; Vang was a member of the California national guard for six years.

You probably don't know about them because they are a very isolated minority in the US. Much more than the more common Asian immigrants.

I'm just thinking that you're criticizing these guys for a possible prejudiced action, yet you assume this guy doesn't speak English just because he is an immigrant. Seems like a lot of Nascar fan type people would think the same way with negative preconceived notions such as immigrant = doesn't speak English.

I meant that he might not understand English very well. I didn't assume he didn't speak English well because he was an immigrant, but because he was Hmong. Again, from what I've learned, the Hmong community in the United States is quite cut off. I don't think most Nascar fans would know what a Hmong is. Cheers.

I can count on one hand the number of Hmong people I've met outside of Asian Am conferences so unless you live close to one of the four big areas of Hmong settlement in the US, it's no surprise you'd never heard of them.

They trace the origin to southern China but the ones you meet stateside will have ancestors who lived in Laos for at least a couple centures, though a group who resettled in Thailand have started moving over of late

Obligatory Iraq comparison - Sounds like he was taking pre-emptive actions.

Or that there was a giant thread in OT that talked about every aspect of the shootings.

Including the part where he actively hunted down unarmed people and shot them to death.
