That blue one is a 1971 RS, see the 356a parked besides the '71, I assembled that engine/tranny as well, this time around I have to rebuild the 1958 speedster from the ground up.

Drowning in a sea of my own drool...I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the 356.

I built a model of a Fujimi '61 Porsche 356B Cabriolet.

NFS4
Driving one is like driving a fast, noisy beetle 😉

I'll take pics of the 1967 Ferrari 275GT when it returns from the body shop, that is a vehicle that everyone will drool over.

DOnt get me wrong id take either porsche in that pictures just the RS first

Should I be impressed?

Blow it out your ear you bum 😉

Did you get all the baking soda out of the engine?

Yes, after washing it in hot water and soap 5 times along with pressure washing it twice.

How much you charging? Why didnt they want a hot 2275 with webbers?

Too much for your wallet, thye owner wants to keep the vehicle bone stock, when finished it's value should be close to $150,000.

That engine sure looks like a VW engine...

Of course it does, Ferdinand Porche designed the Beetle engine in the mid '30's, once the war was over, he wanted to build a sports car, the cheapest way to do this was to take his original beetle design and improve upon it, this engine when completed will make approximately 65hp.

Well, back to work, time to install the pistons and cylinders 🙂

Roger: that's why I made the comment.

You'd have loved to have been there when some lady in a Porche was acting all high and mighty and my brother in law referred to it as an overpriced VW bug to knock her down a notch or two 🙂

My first view of a 356 engine. They had 8 dowel cranks? The sump looks deeper than a typical type 1.

Is that a distributor drive takeoff on the front?

Roger/Do you hang out at Shop Talk?

Sweet.

When I was turning wrenches I got to work on a few old Porches, but never got to do one from the ground up.

BTW: Speaking of VW and Porche. For those that didn't know, in Europe Porche 914's are not even called Porches. Which is about right since they use VW engines. The same engine that's used in the 70's type 2's and the type 4's.

Yews, 8 dowel cranks from the factory, the sump is shaped differently, but only slightly.

Yes, Porsche 356 cases are three pieces unlike the beetles two piece case.

I used to, go search for the name "Corvairguy", I stopped posting when the BBS went down about a year and a half ago, I tried logging in but my password was no good, I emailed them for a new password but never recieved a reply.

New pics coming up soon 🙂

That is a Porsche engine buddy, I used to have one in my VW Bus until I switched to Corvair power 🙂

Dayum, you're quite the mechanic to be chosen to work on the engine 😉

Nice 😀

One of my co-workers has a mint condition '58 356 speedster. Cherry red. I freakin' love that car.
