I would be absolutely stunned if Trump sees an hour inside an actual jail cell...for contempt or as punishment for any of the crimes for which he's been charged.

Up until recently, I probably would have agreed with you @BoomerD

But I've only ever dealt with NJ State crim law. There may have been some federal title 18 cases in there but I guess they were unremarkable.

Trump's documents violations seem to be way more serious than the J6 related ones in DC. I think that's based on what would constitute "normal sentencing" guidelines.

So, to say he's burnt toast would be, let's say, optimistic. And that's even with Cannon on the bench.

For those of you on Earth 2 - ask any lawyer and probably most 2nd or 3rd year law students, Trump has already been treated, and this barely an exaggeration, infinitely better than ANY criminal defendant. The pope would have been locked up long ago.
Like it or not, he will be treated with kid gloves as a former POTUS.

Cannon is perfectly on track to grant Trump indefinite delays and make zero rulings on Trump before the election ~ which if he wins, he can then completely block the federal case going forward.

It's irrelevant. The point of having the J6 trial in March is so there can't be any question about slapping with the insurrection clause of the 14th amendment.

Even though supposedly that clause is *ahem* self-executing (often analogized to the age or birth requirement), try arguing that to a pro-trump election official. Once he's convicted, it's a non-issue.

FYI, the insurrection clause was to prevent former Civil War Confederates from running.

Locking up Trump is the exact same thing as locking up the emotions and agenda of his base as well as the moderate loyalists of whom are so afraid of being accused as traitors by the MAGAts. Semtex meet emotionally outraged hair trigger.

I don't know to what extent this factor is being considered when it comes down to deciding what sort of penalties should be levied on Trump's defiant yet moronic attempts at defending his First Amendment rights to freely speak his mind, yet entertaining the thought of riots in the streets by Trump's minions should he be incarcerated must be near the top of the list to ruminate over.

Even if Trump doesn't get jailed, he's well on his way to becoming a side note.

Earlier I mentioned the 14th amendment sedition clause. Well, in Colorado, that's already being litigated.

But you know what? None of the D states are going to have a problem with keeping him off the ballot. And if so, then obviously, he doesn't have even a miniscule chance of winning.

So you can start crying those crocodile tears now. ;)
