Locating a Stolen iPod

One of my girlfriend's charming little angel students stole her iPod while she turned her back for a minute. So now I am wondering if there is a way to track it using the serial #? Does it check in with iTunes when you connect it? Any ideas?

I'd post a sign in the class that says "reward 500 bucks for information on who stole my ipod'

then have the person arrested and give them an F.

true dat. I'd actually pony up the money too...well not that much.

As for the theft thing, I hear apple doesn't follow through with it due to the sheer scale of the whole thing and how daunting it would be do deal with all that crap.

$50 cash, lunch for a week, extra credit. post it son.

then when you find out who it is, call me. ill beat him

I dont think that one student rolling on another is really all that useful. I'd like to catch them in the act, but I guess that isn't really an option. I understand apple not dealing with it. I was just hoping they could give me an IP and let me take it from there.

Put up a sign that says

"who ever borrowed my IPod has 24 hours to return it to me with no questions asked. After 24 hours and if I do not have my IPod returned, a police report will be filed."

if she gets it back and finds out who did it, file a police report anyway and flunk him/her.

Fail everyone in the class since by your explanation everyone saw somoenoe take it.

Thats exactly what I will do.some or not all of the kids in the class probably were talking to one another or with some friends before "Robber" took the Ipod.It is also guaranteed that some one in the class saw it being taken. Now if you say every one has an "F" then they will definitely tell you who did it. 100% guaranteed.

Everybody stays after school, during lunch etc... for detention every day until the ipod is returned?

Well, I guess you're fvcked then. Just suck it up and buy her a new iPod.

I already bought her a new iPod. It isn't even about the money. It is just these kids piss me off. Their parents are all very well off (cheapest house that sends to the school is $800k) so why do they steal - cuz the parents are lazy and have raised spoiled kids would be my guess.

Unfortunately failing everyone isnt an option. Seems like (at least in this area) the schools pander to the kids. There are other examples but i dont even get me started on that.

As for their age, they are in 7th and 8th grade.

Failing students could be a problem. In my school district (before college), teachers had to have a written explanation for every F they gave, but if they gave the whole class A+s, no one would ask questions. Teachers have very little leverage over students.

^^^ very true. the kids have no respect for the teachers because the administration and parents basically have made it clear that the students run the show. half the time if she calls a parents they tell her (my GF) that it's her fault and that their kid is a perfect. when my teachers called home when I was in school i got my a$$ beat.
