I software program in the hospital I work at only recognizes removable storage like cds or flash mem. Is there a way to get windows to recognize an external USB hard drive as removable storage?

Which version of Windows are you using? it should automatically recognize a USB hard drive as removable storage unless you changed a setting or somethen? If your using Windows Vista, go into device manager, and click on your usb hard drive under the Disk Drives, goto policies and select optimize for quick removal.

Windows XP SP 2. What you mention is not true. I have two USB drives and both of them show as local drives when plugged in. Optimizing for quick removal does not change what Windows recognizes the drive as.
