local phone service - cheapest available?

I really want to post this in hot deals, but I don't think it is appropriate.

Basically, my wife and I each have a cell phone. We also have a land line and I don't really want to give it up. More so - she doesn't want to. What is the cheapest way anyone has found to keep that land line, even if only for incoming calls. I'd prefer not to change our phone #, either. I'd love it to be under $10.

Or is it basically time to suck up all preconceptions about phones and just drop the land line and stick with our cells. I think we have plenty of minutes to cover us for a month. At least, I hope so.

Thoughts?

No way will it be under $10 with the various charges and fees phone companies like to stick on the bill.

As an example, I can't remember if it just got discovered and ignored, or the ph. co's got shamed into taking it off, but up to a year or two ago (I think) we were still funding the Spanish-American war. So yeah, going cell-only, might be the way to go for you.

On that note, I recommend Sage Telecom for phone service. But they are going to be too much for what you want.
