Basically my cell phone is long distance to the area in wich I live. I'd like to just purchase a local phone number that I can forward to my cell phone. The only thing I've been able to find is like Broadvoice.com VOIP service for $9.95/month plus startup costs.

Anybody else aware of a cheaper solution? TIA!

1) switch your number to a local number.

2) get a landline and forward it

3) go with some sort of VoIP number.

$9.95 seems pretty cheap for what you want to do.

i can't imagine you'll be able to get what you want for anything less than 9.95/mo.

1. The problem is so many people have the number that I don't want to change it to a local number.

2. I figured a landline wouldn't be too cheap since SBC is my local provider and they can't do anything cheap.

3. VOIP seems to be my best bet but I figured there had to be some company out there that just provides virtual numbers that you can forward.

I'm thinking $9.95/month might be my best bet but I'll keep looking in hope of finding something cheaper!!

i don't know about forwarding but SBC will give you a line for like $7 a month if you get the measured rate service (which is what i did when i used my cell for all outgoing calls). maybe it's more to forward it though.
