I live in central Kentucky, around the Lexington area. My girlfriend is from a couple of counties away, and we just saw on the news a breaking story about the prison in the county she is from has caught fire. Well, the news couldn't give any more info on it at the time (10 minutes ago), so she called her parents, which still live there.
Her dad knows a LOT of people in this city (it's a very small community, rife with hicks, rednecks, and drugs), and he said that apparently some of the prisoners have taken the guards hostage and set fire to the prison. Whether this is true or not, I have no idea. But she is on the phone right now trying to find out what is going on, as her aunt lives just 2 or so miles up the road from this prison. And if I'm not mistaken, this is a federal prison as well. Also rumored is that the national guard is on it's way there now.
I'll try to keep updated.
UPDATE: They are reporting on the news now that it seems as if some prisoners had taken some guards hostage, shoved them into a closet or something, and then set the fire. The law will not let the news crews anywhere close to even see the facility, but you can see a very bright red glow over the trees, so that thing burning good. The surrounding counties' law enforcement is supposedly coming in and are trying to get inside the facility to put out the fire.
I'm heading to bed, so we'll see how this turns out in the morning.
