by something like $15 bucks effective for the tax year per household.

Why bother?

So you're paying less taxes by $15?

Why are you complaining? At least they are making some effort to curtail spending.

You could be living on Long Island, with all the god damn fire districts. There are more fire trucks on LI than LA, LA county, and NYC combined. Departments without enough volunteers to staff all their engines; departments with ladder trucks that can reach 10 stories when the tallest building in the area is 3 and power lines prevent the use of such trucks anyway; dozens of emergency response vehicles when all of NYC has 5 in total; etc....

Your anti-terror Homeland Defense dollars at work!!!

The bridge and tunnel crowd, many of whom live on LI, is more afraid of terrorists than people who live in the city proper. Probably because B&T'ers work in buildings which were and could be targets, while actual NYC'ers work to serve them pushing food carts on the streets and driving cabs.

Same situation with Giuliani. The Caucasian Republicans who work in the city love him, whereas the African Americans who actually live there for some reason disliked his efforts to crack down on crime.

It's not even the anti-terror money at work. It was like this well before 9/11. It's just the waste that goes on in NY - tons of duplication of services, tremendous waste in the services themselves....
