Are Plextors really THAT much better than other drives (a lite-on for instance)? Faster drives can be found for signifigantly less money and I've never had any read or write problems with my lite-ons....

Plextor denied me a rebate about a year ago based on the price I paid.
I purchased a 16x from Dell and combined with coupons it was about $95. Although, it didn't stipulate a minimum price on the rebate offer, they did reserve their right to deny the rebate at their discretion.
I'll never buy Plextor again! If you're counting on the rebate ...beware your mileage may vary to a much greater degree with Plextor!
I totally agree. I love my last 2 lite-on's (24x, 48x) and given their quality AND outstanding price, the value of the "Plextor-price-premium" has become obsolete.Originally posted by: huesmann
Plextors are no longer the über-burner they once were. Perhaps they still are for SCSI, but I'd say that Lite-On has surpassed them in popularity for IDE. Lite-On's price/performance ratio is so much lower than Plextor's it's not even funny.
Does Sam's Club carry a 48x Lite-On drive?Originally posted by: jjsole

'm not even sure if I would call them the king of SCSI anymore. The last SCSI drive they have made was a 12/10/32S, which I own. The problem is that it's still only a 12x burner and does not support burning of any of these new copy protections. I think that Yamaha and maybe some other companies have released pretty good, and faster, scsi burners. I am actually sick of not being able to burn half the games out there so I am selling my Plextor 12/10/32S in favor of a new LiteOn drive.

That doesn't sound good. Plus, you have to wonder if there's any latency between the SCSI -> IDE conversion/connection.Those new Yamaha "SCSI" drives are a scam. They are not true SCSI. They are IDE with an IDE<->SCSI adaptor
fitted to the IDE connector.
