local area connection missing from xp

Not sure what happened to my laptop (xp pro sp2) but my local area connection is gone and I haven't been able to figure out how to get it back.

Everything looks ok under device manager. The only thing showing up as a problem is WAN Miniport (IP)2...but i think that's just because it's a duplicate entry.

My onboard nic shows up fine.

And I can get online via a usb cable to my cell phone as well as via wifi (last time i tried anyhow). but plugging in an ethernet cable doesn't do anything.

Any ideas what might be wrong?
