Local Area Connection Icon taking forever to load into sys tray

JBT

Lifer
I havea lap top which I wander around with on campus I use wireless sometimes and ethernet other times. Anyway my problem is that the networking icon doesn't load into the sys tray after I everything is loaded up for like 5 minutes after turn the laptop on. I also cannot check the properties of my connection until it loads either. I can use the internet if I have the settings already configured properly. But at school I have to manually assign IP and home I can just auto assign. Any ways ita pain in the butt and I don't know how to either make it load faster or what? Bascially everything loads besides networking stuff then 5 minutes later the HDD light will blink alittle bit and then it will load. THx for any help!!!

I'm not sure why they are taking a long time to come up but you can do this instead. Right click the My Network Places icon on your desktop and go to Properties. Anything that is connected then will show lite up. If it's not connected it will have a little red X over the connection. You can also get to this by going to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections.

Thanks for the reply I mean in my first post when I check the properties of my network places all connections are there. But right clicking on the connections still does nothing, it will just sit there until it loads in the sys tray.

One thing to check is that the Network Connection service is starting after you boot up. Have you checked you Event Logs for any errors? Maybe a NIC driver is hanging or has an exceptionally long DHCP timeout period?

invent view does come up with an error at start up it says

The Internet Connection Firewall(ICF)/Internet connection Sharings(ICS) service hung on starting.

Soo what should I do about that? I checked that it is on automatic in the services menu and it was not sure what else to do though.

Ok change the ICS/ICF service to manual for now and reboot. Check to see if that brings the icon up quickly. If so we'll need to troubleshoot the ICS/ICF service.

with it "stopped" and set to manual it loads right up woo hoo Thanks. Still not sure why it would be lagging so bad though?
