Loading Win 98 on a laptop

Senior member
I'm trying to load Windows 98 onto a laptop from a external Backpack Cd (laptop has no CD with it). I get to setup and it gives me this message:

Please wait while setup initializes
Scanning system registry
Cannot create a temporary directory
If you have HPFS or NTFS installed on your harddrive
you will need to create a MS-DOS boot partition to setup Windows

What the heck is it trying to tell me?

Please reply in a manner that a simpleton would understand!

Thx Nlieber

Sounds like the laptops drive was ntfs or linux?

Try using a DOS disk to fdisk/format the drive into 1 big C drive and then run the install from DOS pointing to the backpack CD

Thats all I can think of

Here's where I reveal my ability! How do I make a DOS disk? I can get it to a A prompt and when I try to switch to C it says invalid drive!

Help!

KGBMAN: Thanks for the link from this end as well. The Win98 annoyances page looks awesome with some that I can already put to good use at home!
