loading SATA drivers with no floppy

hey guys. Im sure this has been asked before I searched and did not find

I have a new dell PC with all the junk on it. I want to load a legit XP pro version on it. I can get past the spot When it asks if I want to load a third party driver I hit F6 and it then asks me to insert the driver disk into the floppy disk drive.

The problem is that this server has no floppy disk drive and there seems to be no way to get the Windows Setup to look anywhere else.

looks like I should just go out to the shed and get the floppy and install... seems easier than slip streaming .... farking micorsoft .!!! FU who uses dam floppies anymore!!!

I made a bootable, slipstreamed disc with nLite that successfully installed. Trouble was, I thought I would be able to easily add drivers for my 9800XT and Audigy by just picking some .infs out of System32. Got a blue screen after a few seconds every time Windows tried to boot.

Yeah, the floppy is the easiest way, but it's not a bad idea to slipstream SP2 and a bunch of hotfixes and the RAID/SATA/SCSI drivers for future use in case you ever decide to reformat later.

If its a new Dell odds are it has native SATA support. Dont press F6 and see what happens. I personally havnt ever had to use a floppy for my SATA because its native on the chipset. Its only needed on modern chipsets for RAID.

naaa i only say my ATA drive. Its not listed on the XP cd drivers.

ill just use the floppy its not that big of a deal. Thanks anyways guys

SATA Dells can usually be loaded with XP without drivers, unless you need to use the RAID capabilities of the built-in drive controller. The BIOS settings have to be just right. I don't have a link on me at this moment, but you'll find discussion of this matter on the Dell Support Forums and on PowerEdgeForums.com

intresting thanks. Ill look into this.

. . . . and there are also flash memory USB drives that can hold anything a floppy can.

Yeah, but XP won't see a flash drive when it wants a floppy drive. There are several things in Windows XP/Server that require a floppy drive and NOTHING else will substitute. Vista, presumably, will fix that.

BTW....not knowing which version of Dell the OP has....
The normal procedure to get a Dell with an SATA hard drive to load XP is to set the "RAID Autodetec/AHCI" setting in the BIOS to "RAID Autodetect/ATA". Then you shouldn't need to load a SATA driver. That's, obviously, for Dells that have built-in RAID functions (like the 8400). If you plan on using a RAID array, you'll need a floppy drive of some sort (usually, USB floppy drives will work).

Ok guys I have a dell 9150 with an SATA Intel 82801G (ICH7 family) Controller
