Loading a new OS on a laptop

I've done a zillion desktop OS overhauls, but never tried to do one for a laptop.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with Win98 on it, but I want to overhaul that an load up Win2K. What's the procedure in installing a new OS on a laptop? IE. How does the system work with the bare essentials (no OS), does it have some type of DOS entry BIOS where I can load-up prelim drivers to setup the CD-ROM.

Any guides to doing so, or some quick tips would be greatly appreciated

You should be able to install it with no problems at all.

I've installed Win2k on tons of laptops without a hitch. Just stick the cd in and boot into it..

The only problems you might encounter is if your laptop has swap cd-rom/floppy drive, and your win2k cd isn't bootable

So laptops also have a 'boot off CD' option, wasn't sure about that. How would one wipe the HDD clean though? I'm assuming the only way to do that would be to format the partition through the Win2K setup menus.

Go to your laptop maker's web site and down load any proprietary W2K drivers that you might need and go to it.

What Toshiba do you have? Anyway, to boot to the CD, hold down the "c" key while powering the unit on (and for reference "f" for floppy, "h" for HDD, "u" for USB floppy, "s" for secondary HDD, and there are more that I don't know off the top of my head). You can repartion and format from the CD. Be sure your laptop has the most current BIOS from Toshiba. Toshiba's BIOS download will make a bootable diskette that will flash the BIOS. You may also want to have the drivers downloaded ahead of time.

Make sure the first driver you install is the TVALD driver.
