Hi guys, I loaded Win2k pro on my HP Pavillion 6501 and now I have no sound or modem.
Can't load drivers from Win2k disc. Downloaded the only drivers I could find from HP, and still no good. No patch for this at HP site.
Device manager just tells me to load the drivers.
It has an AMR system, can anyone help me, thanks.

Tried that one already, thanks but....no good, it's wierd, my display went funny and I had to change the refresh rate and do major resizing to get a good fit.
No sound or modem. It's like Win 2k just won't talk to the cards at all.
Anyone else have any ideas, I would appreciate help.

That's strange. I've dealt with some Pavilions and the supplied Riptide driver worked fine, even if it isn't the best modem/soundcard.

Maybe I'm overlooking the obvious but what is AMR???

Audio Modem Riser. The sound card and modem are integrated onto the one card, presumably to save cost, and maybe space in these mini computers.
This one has a little riser card that connects with a cable and mounts right at the top of the case for the speaker etc. connections.

Okay now I follow you, and I know what you're refering to.

I have seen reports of wrong drivers available on HP's web site for other computers. Have you tried using the drivers for another similar model.

Good idea, will try drivers for a later model with similar configuration, will keep you posted.
Thanks.

Well I checked with the HP supplier today and apparently there is no support for that particular modem/riser for Win2k.
I put the card into another machine and got the same results.
I think it sucks that HP don't support the latest OS for their not so old machines.
Have tried every site I can find for updated drivers and no good. Looks like new modem and sound cards coming up!

The Pavilion's really weren't developed with W2K in mind so I can't really fault HP too much on that. It's a computer targeted at the home crowd, the ones that would upgrade to ME (shudder!!). I buy HP's for the company but I buy the Kayak line. A little more pricey that the Pavilions but they're a much better machine. Extra processor slot, SCSI, server-style drive bays, more PCI slots (Pavilions don't have squat for extra slots) and come preloaded with NT/W2K. I've bought several brand new ones, from companies that over-ordered, on E-bay and similar actions for really good prices.

I hate to sound like someone who suggests getting rid of hardware to fix the problem but you'll be much happier ditching that modem/soundcard anyway. I never was crazy about those cheapo things to begin with. Just stick with hardware recommended on the HCL.

Good luck.
