Hello All,

Is there a way to load a Ghost image into Virtual PC? I have been unable to get an image into VPC using either a "Disk from Image" or via the network Ghost Multicast server.

Any thoughts? Has anyone done this?

Thanks

Not that I know of, and an image of the normal PC wouldn't match up with the different (fake) hardware in the virtual machine anyway.

However, if you are using disk files for your virtual partitions, you can instantly make an image backup of an existing virtual PC setup just by copying the files.

True true...I can back up the VPC no problem.

However, what I am hoping to do is somehow import a Ghost image directly into a VPC virtual machine. I realize that none of the hardware will work. That is not an issue for me. I am trying to import images that we make so that our developers can use them. The developers must have an exact image to do their testing and life is much easier to create the image on the real machine (where the image has to be created in our environment) and then dumb it down for VPC.

Thanks

how exactly is it not an issue to have a ghostage image of an OS where it wont even boot due to hardware conflicts? unless your using some generic OS like knoppix...
Your also violating copyright laws by doing this. VPC requires that you have an INDIVIDUAL licenese for each OS you set up on it. By ghosting a PC and setting it up on VPC your immediately violating that agreement.

No I am not violating any copyright laws. I have an ENTERPRISE MSDN license. Do you know what that is? Do you know what that means? VPC is owned by Microsoft, as is Windows. You figure it out.

--god...if I were violating laws do you really think I would be posting questions on how to do it?

As for the hardware, if you don't understand why I don't care about then you know nothing about VIRTUAL MACHINES inside VPC. I asked for help, not a lecture on copyrights and idocy about what you don't understand.

geeze calm down buddy...i was just pointing out that might be the case...if you have legit reasons fine...its nothing to get all defensive about lol

I have an MSDN subscription as well...I went to the product release and had training through microsoft on VPC specifically and what it can and should be used for...I think i know a little bit at least of how VPC is made to work. I use it every day in testing products as well. I dont see ANYWHERE in my MSDN subscription that says I have free reign to go about copying windows OS's wherever i want etiher just so you know so if you could show me that I'd love to know cause I'd like to be able to do that as well.

I'm just not seeing that it would be possible to even "dumb down" an image from a real machine to work on a fake machine...thats like asking a compiler to recompile an already compiled image. I've even tried it myself with an old windows 98 image, it just wouldn't take even in safe mode, i contend the virtual machine is just to different for a real machine image to adapt to it.
