Load bearing wall?

What kind of wall is it?

If it's for a residence and the wall is wood framing, just climb up in the attic and look. I've seen many houses that utilitize 2x4 framing for interior, non-loadbearing partitions (vs 2x6 or 2x8 for LB walls), but I wouldn't base my choice soley on the wall thickness.

What's underneath it? A load bearing wall has to have a clear path right to the foundation. So if it isn't over a foundation wall or beam it's not load bearing. If it's parallel to the floor joists or rafters it isn't either.

Of course, there are exceptions - if your not sure, find somebody who is.

If the wall runs parallel to the Trusses or Floor Joists above it, it is most likely not load bearing. Other than that, it is very difficult to say without a blueprint or a look-see.
