Someone in our office did a boo boo! He took data files and turned them into shortcuts, I think. He was supposed to take a .dat file from a floppy, email the file to a manufacturer, back it up on his hard drive. I did not observe how it happened, but now the file is .lnk and we have no access. I think he just click & dragged to create a shortcut. Is there a way to change the extension & retrieve the data?
 
no...you have to have the actual file...
a .lnk extension holds ONLY information as to where the file is...
