I just got told by someone with 3-0-0 Heat that mine is "still low."

He says he shipped first on a 6800 to someone with 243 evals so my 75 over 5+ years is obviously deficient. Never mind this is a $69 CPU not a $200+ video card.

I'm not even sure how to respond.

:D

"Sorry, I'll get my hardware elsewhere"

I had a guy with no heat, no ebay, and had been on the forum for a little over a week ask me to ship my MP3 player first. I laughed so hard I almost couldn't reply.

Damn you have seen through my cunning plan on getting 75-0-0 before starting to cheat my victims.

I wouldn't ship first if I was dealing with the President of the United States.

Shipping first is NOT how things work, end of story.

It's not about HEAT/trust, it's about order of events.

We'll probably never trade with each other...

I could care less. I've sold lots my items to traders here and other forums. I've kindly said [no] to those who asked me to ship first.

See any negatives?

Just like with a regular retail business, you get to make your own rules as far as what is acceptable and what is not.. So in essence it doesen't really matter. You won't trade with anybody that wants you to ship first, and they don't want to trade with you if you won't ship first.. so it's actually mutually beneficial. ;)

Just the attitude towards trading, which is yours to have. :)

I never thought I'd be selling stuff ever online, but just started doing it. I shipped first to a guy, cuz my heat was 1-0-0 vs. his like 75-0-0 :p

Just tell him "75 > 3"

Absolutely not. I have a very positive attitude towards trading. I've done it for years now (just recently on AT)

There is no store, no e-tailer, nowhere of legitimacy in which I go to the checkout page of the store and select "How about YOU ship first and I might pay you later".

I grew up on eBay, so that plays a role. I feel if the HEAT's too low or you don't agree, just find that item from someone else. :)

I disagree, but thats fine. Like I said, we will probably never trade.

With ebay there is a 3rd party to establish accountability (particularly if PayPal is used).

Within the hardware community we have no such authority, and a system was devised that allows a track record to be established.

The system may not be perfect, but it works quite well for most people.

If you don't like it (or aren't willing to trust it) you can always use Ebay.

This is why I decided that trading/selling would only be in person. Takes out the issue of shipping/damage/fraud.

shrug.

He does not have to do anything just because its the way it is around here.

He can state he does not ship first (depends on who and heatware personally) and if the buyer does not like that they can shop elsewhere.

Personallly i like the shipping first. but since i only have 4 or so heatware myself it dont happen. heh come to think of it i dont buy much anyway.

Of course he doesn't have to. Then again I don't have to buy. Everyone gets up in arms over it, it's really not that big of a deal - If you can't reach satisfactory terms you don't have a deal.

I'm generally quite open to paying first, even with very little heat (~10 is generally fine with me). Everyone has to start somewhere & having little heat does not make someone a troll. However with someone who registered 6 months ago & has only done 3-4 trades I'm probably going to want them to ship first.

The only reason I even posted this thread is because I found it hilarious. I've been here the better part of 6 years, have 32K+ posts, 75 Heat evals & I'm being told by a complete newbie that I'm lacking in qualifications to ask him to ship first.
