LMAO!!! (Short Track Speed Skating)

Did anyone else see the men's 1000m short track speed skating final?

There were 5 guys skating and on the last lap of the event the two frontrunners
(an American and a Chinese guy) had a big collision and fell. The guys in 3rd and
4th (a Canadian and a Korean) came around the last corner and fell over the first
two guys and an Australian guy, who was running in dead last for the entire race,
crossed the finish line and took Australia's first ever gold medal. The silver went
to the American who managed to cross the finish line on his ass after falling and
the Canadian guy, who got up, skated two strides and then did a double kick to
get his skates across the finish line for the bronze. The Australian had such an
incredible look of suprise on his face, it was bloody hilarious.

It was halairious! I laffed and laffed. I thought they were going to redo it but they didn't. Funny stuff.

haha, dammit, i'm gonna have to catch it on the highlites tonite or something 😉

i wonder how the australian guy's feeling. i don't know if i would be proud of winning the gold knowing it was only because everyone else f*ed up 😉

Well, in an interview he said that he felt "like the luckiest man on Earth", which is quite
accurate since he only qualified for the final because other guys crashed or were DQed.

That's the way it goes sometimes 🙂

anyone care to explain the rules of restarting races? a few days ago when Ohno was skating the 5000m short track relay, the Koreans and some other team fell and got injured, but they restarted the entire heat. i'm on the west coast so haven't seen tonight's 1000m men short track yet, but the collision sounds similar enough...so why no re-do?

I don't know the rules, but I did see that relay race and it was stopped because a
Korean skater was injured. Since they stopped the race, and they had only completed
about 60% of the race, the judges opted for a re-skate minus the Korean team. I
presume that they didn't choose a re-skate for the 1000m because the crash happened
at the very end of the race, all of the skaters did cross the finish line (eventually) and
a few of the skaters were injured.

<< its bull that they disqualified the korean >>

If you're talking about the 1000m event, the Korean finished 4th and the Chinese
guy was disqualified.

Well I don?t know why... but if they did, the American would be out of the race because he was hurt. He came to the medal ceremony in a weel chair and managed to limp his way to the ring (not too bad, though it would obviously alter the outcome of the race).

Apollo should have gotten 4 golds...now he can only get 3 🙂

I think they should've re-run the race though, i was really pissed off

and that jerk who was at the back rolled right through like he had actually accomplished something, it's just not cool.

Haha. In that image from MSNBC you can actually see where one of the skaters pulled the other down as he was falling. Not cool.

The judges should've done a redo. But since they didn't I think it was funny.

The underdogs win! wohoo!

[I am American].

<< repost! >>

For pete sake!
Who cares if it is a repost?
It's new to some of us nobody needs to point out EVERY single repost.

i don't think they can do a re-skate because everyone got hurt. hell, if you're limping i doubt you're ready to give an olympic gold performance run. it sucks but there's not much you can do about it, at least we got the silver.

the medals stats are listed in a box on that story article

Kelvrick - yea i'm watching it now, it said the short track speed skating was in 10 min (about 10pm PST). i'm hoping that's it 🙂
