My IT manager, being one of them. So he gets this email today pertaining to our hospital's domain name and how he has to take action or else h emay lose it or w/e. It did not really mentioned that it was expiring, but it just said to call some number. It was clearly a scam, just by reading the name it came from (random characters) and the fact that it mentioned china. The web site it was referring to was also very "scamish". We told him it's a scam, he did not buy into it, and wanted us to do "better research". So we got our internet guy on the phone just to give him a good laugh and pretend we're "researching". We were finally able to convince him it was a scam, so he then wanted us to forward it to the "internet police" (his words).

Like, seriously? LMAO. This will be the joke for a while I think. Internet police lol.

Hax0rs in teh your PC? Who do you call? THE INTERNET POLICE!

Your first mistake was allowing someone so obviously incompetent for their position to not burn for his mistake. Sounds like a prime opportunity to let him break something massive enough to get him outed so you could step in and collect a hefty salary raise by fixing it and taking on his role.

Son, I am disappoint. The role with the most failure in this particular circumstance was, unfortunately, yours.

He's the IT Manager and falling for such obvious scams.

I agree with Saga on this one; he's clearly unsuitable for the job.

Yep we actually wondered if we should just let him go with it. But since he was putting the decision on us in a way, then we would also have looked stupid for saying it's safe. But it was considered, given he did not even believe us the first time.

He is really not fit for that position at all.

Regardless, in a position of authority I sincerely doubt the blame could be shifted to subordinates over something requiring such basic understanding of the job responsibilities he holds. If anything, it would reflect even more poorly on him had he actually had to consult with lower level employees before continuing to make the mistake. That is adding incompetence onto incompetence.

Personally, if I was an executive of said company I would definitely want to know one way or another that some underqualified retard needs to be moved to a more business-centric management position and replace him with someone who won't make a major mistake with long-reaching financial, legal, and image repercussions.

But thats just me.

Yep I totally agree. He is very sneaky about it all too. He makes up his own tech jargon, and to others who know nothing about computers, he probably sounds really smart. I would pay money to listen to some of the stuff he must talk about in senior management meetings.

He was actually talking to my co worker about that time he wrote LDAPS. "You remember that time, you had to write all the LDAPs?" What he really meant was, adding users to security groups. LOL Like WTF?

He also got pissed off at me once for enabling hyperthreading on the RSA appliance. After trying to translate that, what he really meant was, he was pissed that I asked the network guys to enable split tunneling on the RSA VPN tunnel for when users use tokens. LOL This appliance is not yet in production, because he's too chicken and not proactive enough to launch it. It's been racked up and working for over a year. The tokens expire in 2011. I can only imagine how much all that cost, and it's basically hospital money that has been put to waste. Our tax dollars.

Have him file a complaint at IC3.gov (check it out, it's real)

Of course I doubt that IC3 will do much...if he was swindled $40,000 then maybe...

Direct him to 4chan, they are reportedly a pretty powerful, just, and honorable group on the Internet.

I am very happy my IT Manager that I report to is competent enough to understand most jargon and knows what he doesn't know. He also knows enough that during system outages he leaves us alone as we work to restore the system.

Naw, in the real world, he (the current IT Manager) would just get promoted.
