This is from my mindspring session. Its actually pretty funny. Oh and if anyone here can answer this, why is it that when I connect on this dial up, it only connects to 1.2kbps? Its a 56Kbps built in modem (Dell) and yes I've checked the modem settings and switched it to the max.

Do you live in the stix? Line noise can really degrade your modem connection speed (I experienced this for years).

My dialup problems (when I had dialup) were always due to the phone lines either in the house or outside where I had no control.

No i'm trying to trouble shoot this one guys problem. He's a business man and happened to be in town (next door neighbor). Anyways, says he's been having this problem for a while. In chicago, new york, los angeles, etc.

Hmmmm, odd. It could be something as simple as a bad phone cord. If that's not the case, he might try uinstalling/reinstalling the modem. If that doesn't work, he might have a defective modem.

not bad phone cord. he's been using this all around the US. all of them are like that. he doesn't use his own cord. always out of the phone.
