Teaching Venn diagrams (sets, intersection of sets kinda stuff - very simple)

Took a poll of the class... "how many of you have brown hair."
12
"How many of you have brown eyes?"

One kid responds "one of my eyes is green, the other is brown."
"okay, we'll count you."

Then, of course, how many have neither?

Draw a Venn diagram on the board... label the first set "brown hair"

Started labeling the second set "at least one brown eye"... immediately realized what was going to happen if just one student thought of an alternative meaning... Quickly erased after "at least" and let it stand at "brown eyes"

Well, maybe it's not that amusing to you... but I was amused at the time, and happy that I caught myself.
Heck, I have to double check that none of the homework problems ever comes out with an answer of 69. Otherwise my class immediately morphs into 24 Beavis and Buttheads "huh huh huh, he said 69. Yeah, 69, huh huh huh"

I still get a chuckle out of the time we were told to solve for t and a in my intro physics course.

what you should do is give them homework with answers being, 69, 1337, 666 and anyother meanings.
