LM3914 LED driver Project - need some input

Has anyone here ever fiddled with the LM3914 LED driver?

I am currently working on a project that requires a large bank of LEDs to be driven based on the signal input from a shunt driven off a 36V-42V generator. The LED lighting will represent the amount of current being generated from the generator.

Here's my problem:
The input signal is a max of 50mV
The LEDs are a bank of 10 LEDs in series (where the tutorial shows 1 LED per lead on the LM3914) and there is "one" bank of blue LEDs (5 LEDs per bank). So there's about 100 LEDs involved in this project.

Do I want an instrumentation amplifier with a 100 gain using two inverting op-amp circuits for the input to the LM3914?

For the output of the LM3914, do I need any transistor logic to switch the LEDs or can I just connect the LED banks to the LM3914 leads (I think they are grounded when the circuit lights the LEDs).
