Llano for digital audio workstation?

I had thought about going the Llano route for a DAW. Can anyone advise me on how Llano's actual CPU performance is? I'd like to have a quiet, non power hungry system as the computer will be in the same room as the recordings take place.
 
Everyone else will probably tell you you're better off with an i3-2100 as it's been the case with the last 10 billion AMD threads, so i'll just get that out of the way now.

Llano chips are very good for what they deliver, you get a few extra cores and better 3D graphics performance. I have one set up in my living room and they play games at very nice settings and decent resolution. Beyond that, it's as good as any other chip for everything casual such as web browsing, watching movies, listening to music, word processing, etc.

If you're worried about noise, then you want to get an after market cooler for it.

llano is a reasonable quad core chip
it'll be faster than the X2 in your sig, but slower than an intel i5
don't expect it to do miracles (ie: no L3 cache, likely no upgrade future, not an overclocker's platform, etc.)
the llano in my sign idles around 40-45W and hits maybe 100W under full load which is good
It does everything I need, but sometimes I wish it had a few 100 more MHz (ie: when compiling code)
 
I run DAW Sonar X1c Producer

It runs beautifuly on my 2007 processor.

I can have 15 synths open, 30 plugins, With Audio Engine running it uses 40 percent CPU usage for my projects on average.

Just make sure you get a Quad and 8GB ram. gl 😀

It won't be a replacement for my main computer, but another in my house. I just figured I could try and knock out a quieter solution between the CPU and video card for $130. Maybe I will just get a Phenom X4 830 instead.

Get a Quad and 8GB RAM.

As long as you do that, your DAW will run fine. What app do you use read my post above. Daz all you need a good quad OCed or not. gl

If your not going to play games on the machine. Then a 9600 GT will do just fine for 30 bucks.
