Nutty parents claiming kids have access to porn in their libraries. One of the books a federal judge ordered returned...

They Called Themselves the K.K.K.: The Birth of an American Terrorist Group" by Susan Campbell Bartoletti

Of course lily white parents can't let their precious lily white kids know this country's history of treating black people so they just file a porn complaint. Now that a judge is forcing the books back, they are going to defund the Llano County library system.

I guess that's not going to stop you people from voting Republican.

So Missouri house GOP voted to defund all public libraries.

This is the GOP folks, alt-fact, anti-information, feelings all the way down.

Can't see how they will get their citizens behind them saying there won't be any libraries in the state.

But here is a small county in Texas that is thinking of closing the library because a federal judge told them to put banned books back on the shelf.
Small minded needle-dick bug fuckers.

Any lifeguard will tell you the precautions you need to take dealing with drowning people. They will pull you under.

Reading is for commies and lib tards. They don’t need no learnen books in their county.

Also the library board last year voted to close its meetings to the public.

Also almost 80% voted for Trump in 2020 in that county it’s chock full of nutters.

Per capita income in that county is also 25% below the state average. Closing their libraries will really help them economically in the long run.

Hey @ch33zw1z we have such crazy being promoted by Republicans that has resulted in two threads on their efforts to defund libraries. I'm ok with rolling merging mine into your thread. Maybe title can be more general to Republicans now banning libraries.

The main issue is that republicans exclusively run on culture war issues so they will ALWAYS need new ones. This will never end.
Exactly. If you can't fix society's problems, just find a new scapegoat to focus the constituents' attention on.

Republicans are the James Stewart look-alike:

This is it in a nutshell. This will never end. They will just get worse and worse, that is clearly what some folks have been trying to communicate. Now they will fuck up and have to retreat here and there when they overstep, but they will just keep finding new ways to be terrible. So if it will never end as you acknowledge, don't you consider those people to be the enemy? After all, they will never stop being horrible, that is, if you agree fighting these insanely terrible culture wars with real effects like shutting down libraries and banning books is indeed horrible, then what better way to be able to know and understand your enemy?

No, I don't consider them to be the enemy, at least not in the way you do.

You remind me of some people in my family where you're so consumed by hatred and grievance you've lost the plot. I would suggest taking some time away from politics as it's clearly driving you nuts.

Next up the destruction of red state colleges that have prospered for decades in the name of short term, largely internal party, political gain.

Jon Stewart was interviewed recently and basically said the same thing -the GOP has given up on governing and is just resorting to culture war tactics.

In this particular case, I think I read somewhere that the state of MO actually provides very little library funding to begin with, most comes from the cities and counties? So it may all be performative anyway. Sadly, it will be the rural counties with already limited funding that will probably feel it the most. Owning the libs, obviously.

That makes a lot of sense. Now they can say they defunded the evil liberal libraries but residents won’t get mad because their library services didn’t actually go anywhere.

Who supports this and why?
It's a symbolic victory in the Battle Against Wokeness, if the libraries insist on having Forbidden Knowledge (eg, the history of the KKK, queer people exist and that's okay), they're going to at least punish them to the extent available to them.

Another way they are going to fuck over their own base. And the base doesn't care.

And I'm sure that when their library fails them, they'll blame the liberals, because if the liberals hadn't insisted on allowing access to Forbidden Knowledge, they wouldn't have had to do this.
