Is there anything more awkward than having roommates who have groups of people over? What do you do? Go out and engage with them or stay shut in your room?

I'd say sitting in your room by yourself makes you the awkward one. But honestly that would be my first thought cause I'm an introvert haha.

Depends on the roommate. I had some crazy roommates in the past. The best part about being married is at least you get to choose your roommate, haha.

Make it easy...go get a snack in the fridge and say hi on your way in. If you stay in your room alone all night, then everyone will think you're antisocial. You don't have to be conversational, but at least you can meet your roommate's friends & get introduced since they'll probably be over again in the future.

Wow. Now having memories of weird roommates. Had one guy who had borderline OCD (which is fine), but would give angry lectures to the rest of us about everything from toilet paper direction to how to re-wrap the plastic bags on loaves of bread.

Ugh, I don't want to think about this anymore :D

Yes this roommate is OCD as well. Of course I found that out after I signed the lease. I've been yelled at multi times for moving things around and there are portions of the common area in the apartment that she told me I am not allowed to put any of my stuff there.

How/where did you find your roommate?

I have some friends who are a married couple (man and woman). They have a live in girlfriend, who they share the bed with. For them, living with other people is bliss. They live as a threesome, with everyone doing their chores, go shopping together, movies, etc. When I first found out, I was like.....wow! They've been together for many years and it works out for them. Weird, but true!

They should do like a Tinder for roommates to help with compatibility issues. Edit: of course it already exists:

http://venturebeat.com/2013/08/08/apartment-list-releases-tinder-for-roommates-in-5-u-s-cities/

:p

Currently only available in 5 cities, hope it expands in the near future:

The app was first released in San Francisco earlier this year, and Kobs described it as a “resounding success.” Now it is launching in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and Chicago, which all have big rental markets.

If you can get eight of them at once, they'll call you the Machine.

"Begs the Question" doesn't mean what you think it does.

Just an FYI.

The phrase seems to be in flux, heading towards the other posters intended meaning. I'm not sure at what point it becomes technically correct, but it's getting very close. The term used for its original meaning is honestly somewhat misleading and should have been called something else, IMO.

I impress the girls with my chinese, japanese, korean

I am tempted to learn Hebrew but hard to know where to pick it up.
Maybe I should just hang out at a jewish cafe or something.

For a few years I had to make sure my room mate was not lending out my stuff to her friends.

Things are perfect now.

Living with other people = no go for me

And if I was to ever do so, there will be a LONG list of rules. And yes, one of them you can't have random people over as you please.

Why are you living with someone whose friends you are not comfortable being around?

Just walk around naked when her friends are over. Make yourself a sandwich, read the paper, etc.

Do what you're going to do when you want to do it. Don't let a terrible roommate stop you. Who gives a damn what they think about you if you're most likely parting ways when the lease is up.

Walk around in nothing but a cock-sock and see how many people you can get to sign it. You might get a few phone numbers and you won't have to worry about any more parties at your place.
