Why exactly did the cellist have the rifle in the beginning scene? I watched most of the movie yesterday but missed that point.
 
Koskov needed to fool MI-6 into thinking he was really defecting, so he gave Kara the rifle and some BS story to make it look like the KGB was going to kill him if he tried.
