Well all, for the past three months I have been trying to figure out where to live, and guess what? I've narrowed it down to two choices. Here they are:

Choice #1: (Somerset county, NJ)

Near work (10 minutes)
Near beach
Smaller town, less crowded, less people
Start a new life, but I have some friends there already from work
Closer to where I went to College by about 1/3 of the way, so easier to visit.

Choice #2: (Monmouth County, NJ)

Far from work (35-40 minutes)
Far from beach
Larger town, crowded, but I grew up here so I'm used to it
Know a lot of people, have lots of friends
closer to other good jobs in case I ever left my current job
Farther from where I went to College
CLOSE to my existing gym, which means I wouldn't have to switch, and I love my gym.

So which would you pick?

Change is good IMO.

Not like you're that far from all your old friends either, you could easily still see them on the weekends if you wanted to.

The thing is, I hesitate to stay away from location #1 for a few reasons:

1) The traffic going the other direction (where all the jobs are) is horrible in the morning. If I ever left my current job I'd most surely have to move. But right now, to travel down there, I'm going the opposite direction of traffic, so its quick.
2) I'd have to leave my gym. I've been at my gym for a while, and I'm so inspired I work out every day with a personal trainer, but its mostly the people that keep me going. I could still keep my gym, but it would require an hour round trip to and from it every day.
3) I just changed. I lived 2 hours from here for 5 years, so if I decide to move back to location #2, I still haven't lived in it for 5 years, so I'd have to make a lot of new friends anyway.

The only main reason I consider #1 is that its close to work (the commute would be nice) and I like the area (its physically pretty). But its a more rural town and there isn't as much to do.

1) Well lets say in a year you're fed up with location 1 and or the job there and decided you want to get a job thats in location 2, the easy solution would be to just move back to location 2, not hard to do.

2) You can find another gym, that's not a valid reason not to IMO.

3) I can understand not wanting to leave your comfort zone, but thats not to say that you won't end up having as many good friends in time at the new location.

Just my opinions though, doesn't mean they're the right choice for you nessesarely.

How far is choice 1 from choice 2?

You can always visit friends and family...but being 10 minutes from work (and the beach!) is very tough to beat. The gym is a non-issue IMHO.

Umm, you're going to have an hour round trip to work with #2, so I hardly see how this is the better option.
Either it's an hour to work, or an hour to the gym. And you don't *have* to go to the gym, so I'd rather make the optional trip an hour rather than the work trip 1 hour.

I bought a house 3 blocks from my office. So far, it's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The benefits to such an arrangment are amazing.

Are they both off of the Garden State Parkway? ( I believe Aberdeen is b/w exits 100-105) how about the other one, so I can get some perspective. or the turnpike or what malls they are near?

Location #1 is 114 on the parkway
Location #2 is 127 on the parkway, and then north about 10 miles.

Didn't they teach you in college that "college" is not a proper noun and doesn't need to be capitalized?

another vote for the shorter commute here. I got an apartment within walking distance of where I work, no wasted travel time every day is awesome.

Mjuszczak, just think, when all of this is over you can write the Chronicles of Mjuszczak, detailing all the crazy relationships you've been through

I'm going to move into a 4br 2 full bath&2 1/2 bath town house in Long Branch 2 blocks from the beach. Wanna split the rent with me? I have 2 other people from work going to live with me so we are looking for a 4th. rent is 2k + utilities. so maybe 600 a piece.

move in date is nov 1 and we go look at the place next week most likely sign the following week if everything is ok.
