How long do you think it will take you 'til this site is up and running?

If I can think of a good name, something like geounion.com (which I like, any votes?), I can write the site in a couple weeks... its not that hard!

i like that name. go with it 🙂

But Second Life is fictional/imaginary. The OP is talking about real people communicating with other real people.

Yeah maybe two weeks ... anyone wanna help? 🙂 I am capable of doing the entire site myself but dispersing it would really make the difference...

let us know what areas you want to 'disperse'.

It would probably be best if you tell us your framework for the whole thing so we don't go off on 'tangents' you didn't want/plan.

Just purchases my server from LayeredTech. Going to spend a few days converting my existing server over to the new one... then I'll begin to actually sell web hosting and also work on geounion.com. Will keep everyone updated.

As far as responsibilities ... I'd love to have some people write some functions and/or classes in PHP for 1) Getting the coordinates of a specific address (can be done through geocoder), and 2) detecting zip code based on IP address (they will still have the ability to change this, but it will "suggest" their location.

Also, should the default be within 50 miles radius? Should we let the user choose how far out they want to go? Should we let people add "virtual locations"? (say they want to move to california, but don't actually live there yet, they can add it as a virtual location and can "remotely place themselves there" anytime they wish).
