How is it that a city with the toughest gun laws in the country has some of the worst crime?
Some people see that, notice that places with really lax gun laws tend to have low crime, and see a trend.
Of course strict gun control tends to be in cities while lax gun control tends to be in the boonies, the crime patterns are not exactly comparable in the first place. I'd argue that it's pretty good proof that gun control does not decrease violent crime all that much...but I'd also argue that gun ownership doesn't cause low crime rates either.
Crime will mostly happen or not happen, the major thing gun ownership can do is control whether or not crime happens to you personally.
Edit: And I could be wrong about this, but Maryland (including Baltimore) has rather lax gun control laws, while DC residents can't even own one...yet I would not call Baltimore a safer place to live, I'd much rather live in DC from a safety standpoint.
