"Live Journals"

These "live journals" are easily one of the the worse things to happen to the internet sine the RIAA. For whatever reason I can't stand the whole concept. Its a vicious cycle of 14 year old girls complaining about how fat they are just to have 50 of their friends tell them via the internet that they are not. I hate when people try to act "alternative" and write lousy poems on them. I hate their entire existance. Anyone hate livejournals as much as me?

i have a livejournal and I enjoy it. If you hate them so much, just stay away from them. It's not that difficult.

I agree. I browse the web quite a bit, and I never accidentally stumble on people's blogs. If you're reading them you must go looking for them.

It's like a trainwreck. I try to avert my eyes, but somehow I can't.

I have a blog. people have been keeping journals for a long time. the riaa didnt really happen to the internet, they're just trying to protect their assets, even though they definately suck. see sig.

I guess I haven't read any live journals belonging to 14 year olds. If I did I probably would find it mindless and shallow. If they want to waste their time posting crap though, who am I to stand in their way? Look at all the mindless crap I post in Off Topic!

A: ever tried switching the channel or turning the TV off (don't read lj's, browse some other sites, or step away from the monitor)

B: many journalists and professional writers and photographers have lj's and they are great! not to mention that there are communities where useful info on topic is offered and exchanged (example: http://www.livejournal.com/community/clubmusic/ )

C: what's worse than prudes and soccer moms trying to uphold the morals or control lifestyle of others? whiny geeks doing pretty much the same.

eh. I have a LiveJournal and enjoy it. most of my RL friends have them too. I enjoy them. It's a great time waster when I'm bored at work, and it's a convenient way of keeping up with my friends' lives, since we don't get to see or talk with eachother more often than once a week due to conflicting work schedules.

Well, you have to click a link in order to get to the site to read the journal. Ever think of not clicking that link? It's not like you turn on your computer and suddenly some nitwit's prepubescent rantings appear on screen.

i personally dont like them, i dont like everyone knowing my business, and a lot of people 'argue' over livejournal or whine.. ugh.

I have one. I used to keep a paper journal when I was young, encouraged by my parents. Now that I'm in the computer age, it just made sense to shift it online. The difference for me though, is that I'm not really writing down my innermost feelings. I'm writing about observations, random pet peeves, guys I date, or wondering about stuff.

I'm not 14, I'm turning 27.

me too.
i mean, there are a lot of dumb ones out there.
you know, crappy poetry, drama and people i know nothing about.
but every so often you find an interesting one to look at.

I hate em too. I think that journals should be kept private, they are YOUR experiences, people need to stop seeking attention ;-) I have a private word doc that I keep, 300+ pages and counting...
